La elastina, una prote\u00edna estructural fundamental de la MEC, es el principal componente de las fibras el\u00e1sticas y la responsable de la elasticidad y resistencia de tejidos y \u00f3rganos. Sin embargo, la elastina no se repone a lo largo de la vida, lo que provoca la degeneraci\u00f3n de los tejidos y la p\u00e9rdida de sus funciones. En respuesta a este reto, hemos ideado biomateriales con propiedades mec\u00e1nicas personalizables como soluci\u00f3n prometedora para contrarrestar el deterioro de la funci\u00f3n cut\u00e1nea relacionado con la edad y las lesiones. Aislamos y procesamos la elastina mediante un proceso propio y escalable industrialmente para desarrollar materiales compuestos de elastina\/col\u00e1geno no-tejidos mediante electrospinning y la reticulaci\u00f3n qu\u00edmica. La elastina procesada se integr\u00f3 con \u00e9xito en no-tejidos electrospun en cantidades elevadas de hasta el 90%. La elastina reduce significativamente el m\u00f3dulo el\u00e1stico de las nanofibras al tiempo que aumenta la porosidad del vell\u00f3n. Estos materiales totalmente absorbibles no eran citot\u00f3xicos, ten\u00edan un bajo potencial irritativo y resultaron ser excelentes andamios para el cultivo de c\u00e9lulas. Adem\u00e1s, los niveles de endotoxinas de la elastina procesada y los no-tejidos reticulados resultaron ser inferiores a 10 EU\/g y 5 EU\/g, respectivamente, y el material no provoca reacciones tisulares adversas tras su implantaci\u00f3n. Nuestro trabajo ha dado lugar a una plataforma vers\u00e1til para la producci\u00f3n a escala industrial y rentable de elastina y materiales no-tejidos sintonizables producidos por electrospinning para una amplia gama de aplicaciones biom\u00e9dicas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sobre el experto<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tobias Hedtke<\/strong> es el Director de Tecnolog\u00eda (CTO) y Co-fundador de matrihealth. Estudi\u00f3 bioqu\u00edmica en la Universidad Martin Luther de Halle-Wittenberg y obtuvo su m\u00e1ster en 2016. Desde 2017, ha sido investigador asociado en el Instituto Fraunhofer de Microestructura de Materiales y Sistemas IMWS en Halle (Saale), Alemania, especializado en el desarrollo y caracterizaci\u00f3n de biomateriales basados en prote\u00ednas. Est\u00e1 realizando su doctorado en la elucidaci\u00f3n de la estructura molecular de la elastina y est\u00e1 utilizando estos nuevos conocimientos para desarrollar nuevos biomateriales basados en elastina.
